Stretch ceiling as sound insulation from the neighbors above
Noisy neighbors – a very common problem in high-rise residential buildings. This is especially true in the so-called “Khrushchev” and “panels” – types of high-rise buildings, where the interfloor floors are thin, not equipped with sound insulation and poorly absorbed sounds. As a rule, the noise produced by the neighbors above is especially unpleasant and tangible – after all, the fact that the floor is for them is the ceiling for people living below, therefore the tramp and movement of furniture on the floor can be overly well heard.
If it is decided to install a stretch ceiling, this can be a good choice both in the context of aesthetics and in the aspect of the possibility to increase noise insulation.
What makes the ceiling of PVC film is convenient for creating noise insulation?
The very presence of an air gap between the stretch canvas and main ceilings already reduces sound permeability.
It does not matter if the customer chose a fabric cloth for a stretch ceiling or if a PVC film is stretched on it: the laws of physics are such that acoustic vibrations are delayed by any cloth. Sound waves like “ricochet” from any solid overlap – it works in this case.
However, by themselves, suspended ceilings still are not full sound insulation. Therefore, if the apartment has a problem of noise from the neighbors above, it must be solved before installing the ceiling. For this, various soundproofing and noise-absorbing materials can be used – from modern versions, these are polyurethane foam blocks, mineral wool, self-adhesive sealing tape, and special acoustic panels.
Please note that the ceiling profile should not be fixed to the soundproofing blocks themselves – they are not designed to support its weight. That’s right – to fix all the details of the frame of the suspended ceiling on the architectural ceiling, while the soundproofing layer can be drilled. Or initially do not put sound insulation where the frame structure should be.
