Stretch ceilings are becoming increasingly popular. And it is completely deserved, because they have a lot of advantages and interesting features that allow you to quickly and easily create unique design options. However, there are still some “horror stories” about these ceilings. We will talk about them.
PVC ceiling myths
Myth 1. PVC film is toxic
This myth is based on the fact that PVC canvas is made from artificially produced polymers. And indeed it is. But homegrown chemists must have been unaware that not all polymers are toxic in everyday life – after all, they are being developed for use in living quarters! And they do not emit absolutely any substances either into the air or into the water, so not only the details of the ceilings are made of them, but also the dishes, food equipment and containers, and pipes for drinking water supply.
In order for polyvinyl chloride to manifest any property that is dangerous or unpleasant for a person, it must be melted at least – but it’s clear that this is not part of the rules for operating the ceiling. Certificates should certify the safety of the ceiling material – high-quality and proven materials are on sale subject to compliance with state standards and norms.
Myth 2. If you make a suspended ceiling in the nursery, it will be easily and quickly damaged
To make a hole in the ceiling, either a sharp or an object launched with great force must fly into it. The likelihood that a child from the height of his small stature reaches something sharp to the ceiling is very small and is certainly comparable to a similar risk in adult premises – for example, in the living room, the ceiling risks failing to meet with cork from champagne or dishes flying in the heat of quarrel .
Myth 3. Over time, either from overheating the ceiling will begin to sag
Temperatures of 70 degrees Celsius are considered as exceeding the allowable temperature for PVC – it means that a stretched PVC ceiling is undesirable only in a sauna, and in living rooms it is not threatened. A sagging ceiling is possible only when it was originally incorrectly mounted in a room with a very large area. We guarantee that with proper installation, the ceiling is not deformed for at least 10 years.
Myth 4. Over time, the film for the stretch ceiling will fade
The color of the PVC film will remain unchanged for decades, as it contains a special substance that protects the pigment from burning out – ultraviolet stabilizer.
