Damaged stretch ceiling. What to do?
The ceiling of PVC film is a fairly durable construction, but, alas, defects may appear on it due to mechanical effects. The fact is that damage to the PVC film, if it is cut, punctured or hit on it, may increase, so-called will appear. “arrow”. And therefore, for the integrity of the ceiling fabric of polyvinyl chloride is still a danger of careless operation.
Causes damage to stretch ceilings
The risk that the stretch ceiling film is damaged exists during the installation process (the experience of the installers is important here) and subsequently, during operation.
In the process of installing the ceiling, it happens that, putting a ceiling profile, the canvas, by mistake, touches the sharp edges of the parts, and this can already lead to rupture and the “arrow”. To prevent this from happening, all hard, sharp edges during installation should be wrapped with packaging film.
In children’s rooms, the suspended ceiling often suffers from toys falling into it – soccer balls, darts from playing darts, bullets from toy guns, etc. Well, in the rooms where adults are resting, a champagne cork can fly into the ceiling. All this easily makes a hole in the cloth.
Also, PVC canvas is not heat-resistant – and if a candle, a lighter, or even a simple incandescent lamp is brought close to it, it can melt in a place of strong heating.
Please note: high-quality ceiling films do not burn, but only melt, which prevents the spread of flame in fire-hazardous situations.
What to do if there is a defect on the stretch ceiling?
If for any reason your stretch ceiling is damaged, and a hole or incision has formed on it, do not try to repair it yourself. It is impossible to stitch a cloth for a stretch ceiling.
It would be correct to do so — fasten the canvas with a piece of construction (painting) tape to avoid further breakthrough divergence: this is “first aid”, but not a solution to the problem.
Then it is better to contact the company where you ordered the ceiling, so that the restoration work (possibly with the replacement of the cloth – depending on the size of the damage) was done by experts.
And independent actions should not be taken also because they surely violate the conditions of the guarantee, which the customer receives when purchasing the ceiling.
